Industrial production takes the most important place in the economy of Khabarovsk Territory today. The leading role here belongs to machine-building complex taking into consideration the volume of production output, accumulated production, scientific and technical, workforce potential. It includes production of vehicles, machines, electrical and electronic equipment.

The largest industrial enterprise of Khabarovsk Territory is Public JSC Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Corporation. The company is implementing a number of civil aircraft construction programs along with the delivery of primary products for export and the implementation of the state defence order.
The most ambitious of them at the moment is the construction of SSJ-100 aircraft (Sukhoi SuperJet-100), designed for both domestic air transportation, and for the development of the export sector of the world market. The first flying Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft was introduced on the 26th of September, 2007 at a factory in Komsomolsk-on-Amur where it successfully made its first flight on the 19th of May, 2008. To date the company has received orders for total production of ninety eight Superjet-100 aircraft.
The steel industry in Khabarovsk Territory is represented by the only in the Far East metallurgic complex in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Public JSC Amurmetall, a member of the industrial group Siberian-Amurskaya steel, lies at the base of this complex. The company produces formed profiles, sheet, bar, and other steel products. The economic crisis has slowed down the development of the metallurgical industry. But during the recent visit to Komsomolsk-on-Amur Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that Amurmetall must get guarantees from the state to obtain credit resources. This will allow the company to survive during the difficult period. In the future though, Amurmetall has excellent prospects. In recent years the plant management invested a significant share of profits in production upgrading, and today it is a modern enterprise with a unique for Russia equipment.
JSC Amur Shipbuilding Yard, also located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the largest shipyard in the Far East. 270 ships and boats, including 56 nuclear submarines have been built here during the long history of the yard (since 1936). This full profile, well equipped shipyard produces a long list of marine and general engineering products ranging from reservoirs of various purposes to sophisticated equipment for exploration and development of oil and gas bearing shelf. The plant has the necessary production facilities and technologies to build ships and vessels with the displacement of up to 25 tons.
The company will be recovered under the state control in 2009 and according to Vladimir Putin the government intends to provide strong support to the company. According to the government, it should become an important part of The United Shipbuilding Corporation.

Gold reserve

The main wealth of Khabarovsk Territory is timber, minerals, fish and other natural resources.
The area of forest fund of the territory according to the latest state inventory as of 01.01.2008 amounts to 73.7 million hectares (93.5 per cent of the Territory). Of these, over 20 million hectares (40.2 percent) of forests are good for logging.
The total timber stock in the Territory is more than 5 billion cubic meters. 54 percent of timber harvested in the Far Eastern region, and 8 percent of Russia’s timber are logged by the companies representing forest sector of the Territory.
Exploitation of minerals in the Territory is performed by 21 mining companies, 16 of them are engaged in the extraction of precious metals - gold and platinum. The share of the mining industry accounts for 21 percent of the volume of gold production in the Far Eastern region and 9.2 percent of all volume produced in Russia. As to the extraction of precious metals in terms of gold equivalent the Territory ranks third in the Russian Federation.
There are 360 gold deposits registered in the Territory. 24 of them belong to ore deposits and they make up 71% of all known reserves. 60 deposits of 157 licensed are being developed.
