Khabarovsk is Welcoming the Russia-EU Summit

Today the “Russia-European Union” Summit is beginning its work in Khabarovsk. Such meetings have already been traditionally carried out every six months. In the first half of the year Russia hosts the Summit, and in the second half - the country which is the chair of the European Union at that period of time arranges the event.

Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation proposed to carry out the Summit in the capital of the Fare Eastern Federal District, and it is pleasant to know that this suggestion has been supported in Europe.
Khabarovsk often hosts the major international economic and scientific forums. However, it is the first time the summit-scale meeting of the leaders of the European Union and the Russian Federation will take place here.
The meeting is held during a complicated period of the international financial-economic crisis. And obviously, it will contribute to its solution. Undoubtedly, agreements will be achieved in all four aspects of cooperation between our countries.
Khabarovsk welcomes the participants of the Summitww - Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vaclav Klaus, President of Czech Republic, Javier Solana, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, Chair of the European Commission, Benita Ferrero-Valdner, Member of the European Commission in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Catherine Margaret Ashton, European Trade Commissioner, and other participants. One of the main topics which country leaders will be discussing is the Russia’s proposal to work out a new document which would regulate in Europe the relation in the energy sector. This document which could substitute the European Energy Charter Treaty has been already presented by the Russian President during his recent visit to Helsinki .
The leaders will traditionally discuss the relations between Russia and EU.
Hundreds of mass media representatives from more than 20 countries, including not only the European countries but also the USA, Japan, China and many other countries expressed their desire to cover the event. More than 300 mass media representatives have been officially accredited. They are provided with a press-centre completely equipped with all modern means of communication. Thus, all the decisions made during the Summit will be available for the world community in an on-line regime.
